The mostly-final verdict from the latest lot of biopsies; a deep, slow-growing bone tumour that's only just the wrong side of cancerous. He says it's likely it's been there for years already, destroying from the inside; but until it erupted through the roof of Spike's mouth there was no reason for any of us to go looking for it.
We are not beaten. My vet, having done some research, now says it may not be as inoperable as he first thought, but his surgery isn't equipped to do it. I'm to call back on Wednesday and discuss options and referrals.
We are not beaten. If surgery isn't viable there are still other treatments to slow it down or stop it where it is. We're a long way from being out of options. There are no lengths I won't go to. I will not lose this one.
