It's... odd. It fits with Tehanu, but neither really fit with the original trilogy. At the time I thought she'd have done better to leave it alone. But it's growing on me. Possibly only because I spent my teen years convinced I was a dragon who'd been given human shape by mistake, so it's a bit like all my Mary Sues brought to life by my favourite author...
