...oh, and the poem - the names coming into my head are Adrian Mitchell and Brian Patten. It may not actually be either of those, but I'm pretty sure it's someone contemporary and British. That's probably why I can't find it online, because it's recent enough for there to be copyright issues. I probably originally came across it in a compilation of modern poets. I did manage to check through a copy of The Rattle Bag in Waterstone's and didn't find it, but the sodding thing had no index of first lines (pauses to curse the publishers with suppurating boils) so I could, comceivably have missed it in there, but I'm pretty sure I didn't.
