OMG - I did the same thing to someone my ex was interested in (when he wasn't my ex). He told her so many lies, I cleared up some "misconceptions", and now she and I are good friends (and she's married to someone really cool!!!!)

Recently she sent me a "thank you for saving me from him email"!
