Faith lives on within the haze

This NEVER HAPPENS. Spike is twitchy and Squish is guardy of his personal space, and they can usually hardly bear to sleep in the same room, never mind like this.

...am following news of the Australian bushfires. Blindsided into tears on my GSP rescue group by the news of Canawindra GSPs losing their home and all their dogs and horses. I don't want to think about it, especially the part about how someone might have started this on purpose. I can't not. I know there are charities set up for aid donations - I'll find one and post it later. Meanwhile, praying.

Aww, couch-sharing! THEY ARE SO CUTE.

I'm distressed over the bushfires, too. I know we have some Aussies on the Subeta staff, and at least one is from that area. She requested some time off due to the heat, and now I'm worried as fuck about her; she's a single mum to boot.

It didn't last. Spike rolled onto his back and stuck a foot in Squish's face and there was growling and Spike's gone back to his cushion in the hallway.

I'm worried too. My knowledge of Australian geography isn't good enough to know how much danger the people I care about over there might be in; they've both posted to LJ since it got bad so I'm optimistic about them in particular. But so many people and animals killed, injured and made homeless. It's horrifying.

Precious pics! The boys look almost guilty, like they aren't supposed to be so close and sleepy :P

Bushfires are the worst. I don't know what to say. I hope it wasn't started by a person, but regardless of cause damage is done and will be done so I guess it doesn't matter. :[ But if someone is responsible I hope they find them.

Those poor dogs and horses... -.-

It's a physical burning in the pit of my stomach when I think about the dogs, and other animals, who have and are dying, and how horrible their suffering must have been and be. I suppose I should be worried about the people more than I am, but I figure there are a lot more people out there concerned about them than about the animals, so it all evens out. WIth things like this, I feel so impotent!

I'm about as far from the firezone as you can get and still be in the same country...

Thanks - that's good to know on both counts. I feel slightly bad about not having a bloody clue whereabouts any of my friends are - but it's a bloody huge continent and it's a loooong way from here.

It's not that i don't care about the humans. It's just as horrific for any living creature. But humans are that bit more capable of coping without help, with the big brains and opposable thumbs and cars and all, and there are limits on what I can do. So I put my own energy to helping animals. i think it does even out in the long run.

Oops, its redcross.org.au - and the best place for bushfire news is http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/bushfires/

I'm in the city that won the America's Cup, there that ought to make it a bit easier ;)

Perth's foothills do get some nasty fires, and one year a fire was a street away from evacuating our corner of the suburb (then the wind changed direction), though this is a bad one... so it is good to see the country coming together.
