We found things to do in stormy weather

Another triumph for Squishy!

When I first got the new long line for him, he was so scared of being pulled up short on it that he absolutely refused to chase a ball, even though I was very careful not to throw farther than his range, and if the line happened to run under one of his legs he'd freeze and stand there with the Look Of Squishy Woe until I came and manually untangled him. I was scared that between Spike's shark-attack tactics and the line, his ball drive had been completely suppressed.

But I was wrong - he just needed time to get used to it. Today he kept yapping at Spike chasing his ball, and making little aborted lunges whenever I threw for Spike, so I tied Spike to a tree (he can't be loose when Squish is trying to chase a ball; I'm not quick enough to stop him sharking. Also, Squish is not stupid and won't touch a ball if Spike is loose anyway). And Squish had a merry ten minutes playing ball. He was so smiley and happy!

I wish I could have done long throws - he's not a short-distance nippy sprinter like Spike, and little short runs are not his forte - but I am not ready to have him completely loose yet, if ever. But still!

And, for your pleasure, a link found on the Yahoo Border Collie list: Border Collies are tough, tough dogs!

In other news, water is wet and fire is hot...
