I didn't realise they'd eat them with the feathers on ... I would have thought that would be rather ticklish! LOL

It's good for their guts - this is the way cats are meant to get roughage.

Besides, they'd be damn fiddly to pluck!

How... er... interesting. :)

The kittens think so!

I know its probably a weird reaction, but AWWW,How cute is that! I bet they loved it.
My kittys have always loved proper dead animals, rather than tinned cat food. I remember once finding my cat sitting in the conservatory with a dead baby blue tit in her mouth. And when she put it down, she had another one stuffed in there too. And then there was the time she brought a LIVE mole in...
Yay for kitty cats:)

exactly! I'm not willing to let my cats kill wild birds, but there's a reason they do that - that's what they evolved to eat, it's what's best for them.

and they enjoy the chicks enormously, batting them around and play-hunting them. So much cat fun!

Where do you get chicks from? I've been thinking about switching our cat to a better diet.

Any pet shop that sells reptile food. A bag of fifty frozen chicks costs me a fiver. And my pet shop delivers!

There are places you can order them online, but those generally only deal in several thousand at a time.

That bottom pic on the right is cute.

I love that "Ok, so what do I do with this now?" look.

Adorable wittle kittens!

The chicks kind of look drunk and passed out, not dead, which is both hilarious and a little pathetic.

Heh, you're right!

I've used them as pet food for so many years now (snake, ferrets and hawks) that I pretty much take them for granted.

The dogs still won't eat them though. I think they find the feathers offputting, or it could be the egginess. Neither dog is a big egg fan.

I didn't know they sold dead chicks for cats to eat. You learn something new every day.

They're mainly sold for snakes and birds of prey who aren't capable of eating kibble-type foods, but they're a good food for any carnivore. Much closer to what their bodies are evolved to eat than little meat-flavoured biscuits.

Raw feeding and species-appropriate diets are a bit of a thing of mine. I have to say it's worth the effort with the dogs and cats though. They look so much better on it - shiny coats and white teeth and boundless energy.
