The moon's too bright, the chain's too tight, the beast won't go to sleep

I loathe Xmas and the runup to it. No, that's not quite true. I do always end up enjoying the day itself, thanks to the fact that I'm lucky enough to have wonderful blood relatives who are actually fun to spend time with. Nevertheless, I still spend December in a state of fear and loathing. I hate the huge fuss that the entire world makes about Xmas; I hate the pressure and expectations, I hate the deadline of present shopping and I will still be glad when it's over.

Today is a good example. I want to spend the morning concentrating on an RP post, but instead I have to go Xmas shopping. Blergh.

I also have another really good reason to want it to be over: Torchwood starts January 26th. I have just seen this trailer, (thank you [livejournal.com profile] drewshi!) and I'm gibbering with anticipatory excitement now. Loooooook!!

Edited to add: thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] moviegrrl! I have a disc here for you I haven't posted yet, because I'm an arse. But I love you!

I don't like christmas. I don't like summer. I don't like daylight saving. Ha! I beat you 3-1 :P

For the record, I don't do christmas shopping... except for stocking up on food - okay, okay, so I bought some mince pies for myself...

*hugs*

I also despise the season, or what it has become: the crass commercialism and the guilt-trip pressure/fear-of-inadequacy pressure that's been increasingly brought to bear by the people who want you to buy things, their things, more things than you can possibly afford but that's okay we've got a convenient Christmas-club plan that is sure to keep you in hock up to your eyebrows until next Christmas; the notion that businesses must struggle along in the red for ten and a half months out of the year, waiting for the holiday-shopping season to finally either put them in the black or ruin them totally.

I decline to participate. I stopped playing years ago. Love the food and (mostly) the family, but the depravity and greed of the rest just makes me ill.

I'm reminded of the line (going from memory here -- don't shoot) from Hannah and Her Sisters:
"If Jesus were to return to Earth today and see all of the things that are being done in His name, he'd never stop throwing up."

I don't make a fuss about Christmas anymore, except the Christmas cards. ;)

Btw, get yer butt back to Terran! GRR! you told me to tell you when you stayed away too much. :P
