Some dog people on my f-list started a meme: Dog Breeds I Would Like to Own Before I Die.

I looked at Spike and realised, I got nothing. You're it, babe. You spoiled me for all those others, however fine.
I'd like to live long enough to have a few different Border Collies: a blue merle, a bitch. And if I happen to live long enough to be too old and wobbly to cope with a Border Collie I would maybe have a sheltie or one of the smaller corgi breeds, or a Papillon. But I'm not sure I really want to live as long as all that.

Edited to add: What I really wish is that I'd happened to collide with Border Collies much earlier. I think my life might have turned in a radically different direction if I'd had something like that to live up to. And I think I would have preferred it.

I'd like to have a go at most of them I think! So far I have had poodle X Bedlington, Irish Terrier and shit head Kerry Blue. I've never had a dog that moults and I'm not sure I ever could now; the lack of hair is bliss!!

...There are a ton of dogs I like. I always adore spending time with staffies and Jack Russells, and I love my sweet soft pointer to distraction. And I have a huge soft spot for Standard Poodles and Great Danes. I just... i know that if I tried to live with any other breed I'd be continually mentally measuring them against a Border Collie. And none of them, for me, would match up to that.

I admit Duncan made me a cocker spaniel girl, but then Felix made L pretty much put his foot down about ever getting a cocker again.

yes, this. And I LOVE pit bulls. We do still have them here (codenamed Irish Staffies, LOL) and I love getting the chance to meet and play with them. But the whole terrier and/or bully dog mindset isn't one I could live with 24/7.

And I know you understand exactly what I mean by that because that's how you feel about collies.
