With a magnifying glance

Yesterday I was whining to [livejournal.com profile] cottonmanifesto about not having anyone to photograph the dogs outdoors for me, and how it was so harrrrd to juggle a camera in one hand and two leashes in the other. She didn't actually tell me to stop making lame excuses and just start taking pictures anyway, but she's nice like that. So these are for her.

This is Spike and Squish on alert - there's another dog across the road.

This is Spike in his hollow tree. I can't get far enough away to show the whole tree without letting the leash go, but he's about eight feet off the ground here.

Ever wondered why our house has never been overrun by zombies?

This is Spike in his Lookout Tree. It has a handy bulge in the trunk about four feet up that he can stand on.

This is Spike being nosy over someone's six foot garden wall. I get a lot of innocent amusement at people's reactions when his head pops over their walls and fences.

The rest of them are here.

I'm going to keep doing this. My dogs may be glorious, but my photography needs practise....

Nice pics :)

Don't you have any snow right now?

I wish. It almost never snows down here. It's not even below freezing at night right now.

Yay! Cute pup pics!!!! One of the things I liked about England when I was there during college January term(ehem....16 years ago...ugh!) was that it was so warm comparatively to Washington state. Although there was that hurricane that hit one of the days I was there.....and classmates from the philosophy class who were touring Europe were stuck on a boat in the English Channel during it....LOL!.....All I remember as we walked as a group to a theatre performance was "Damn! Sure is windy tonight!!!"

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I remember that one. Sure, nothing much by American standards, but it was a real hurricane!

The best thing about English weather is that it's unpredictable and eccentric, but almost never actually dangerous. I doubt I'd ever willingly live anywhere else.

But I could still do with a bit of snow. One of these years I'll move up to North Wales or Scotland - the South Coast is really too warm to suit me all year round.

[identity profile] bulletslc.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I liked the weather.....foggy and green even in January! The foggy I was used to (very foggy in Spokane WA where my college is). Actually it was the first (and only, so far) hurricane I've been in.....I've been through mild EVERYTHING as far as natural disasters go.....hurricane, tornado (which took out a bunch of the gay bars in Salt Lake City---the Mormons, of course, saw it as an 'act of God'....bleah!), earthquake and mild flooding. The Pacific Northwest just hasn't had many natural disasters....though I DO live on a major faultline and when the BIG ONE shakes the valley Salt Lake City will be toast!

If you want snow come visit! (though right now all the snow is on the mountains....has been unseasonable warm this year!)

If you want snow come visit!

Both of you in ONE place?
I doubt there'd be any snow, the volcano that'd erupt would melt it all.

[identity profile] james-the-evil1.livejournal.com 2006-01-08 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
exactly where a lot of the heat would come from ;-)

[identity profile] jeneration-why.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Cuuuute little buggers! *smooches all around*

But I could still do with a bit of snow. One of these years I'll move up to North Wales or Scotland - the South Coast is really too warm to suit me all year round.

I was surprised how (generally) warm the U.K. was when I spent that year in Exeter. We had a small dusting of snow in January once, but I never saw snow for the rest of the year. We even spent a couple weeks in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Stirling in March, and the most we got was a howling, icy wind. No snow.

Those are great!! :)

Thank you!

I think they'll get better with practice but I was pleased all the same.

I've also been iconning like mad. You've inspired me.

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Practice well help. Maybe I'll take my camera out on my dog walk this morning. There's nothing to see out there though 'cept for the same ol boring winter crap.

Yay for fun icons!

Which is better, this one or the one I used for the post?

[identity profile] bulletslc.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
I like THIS one!

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
I like the font in this one better. :)
ext_15855: (Spike Pussywhipped)

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'll keep that one then. I just realised it shoulkd have been whipped - although "pussy struck" is a real phrase, it's not as recognisable. Derr...

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, if the slightly slow folk like me can figure it out (and I did), anyone can. :)
ext_15855: (Spike Pussywhipped)

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but whipped does sound better, doesn't it?

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
If you're butter, cream, or cream cheese, sure!

[identity profile] bulletslc.livejournal.com 2006-01-08 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Pussy whipped is definitly the phrase I'm more familiar with.

At least you get a proper winter. You have about three months before I go into continual whining about the heat mode...

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
ha ha ha! it doesn't get hot in the uk for any annoying amount of time. we usually get at least two weeks of high 90s and 90%+ humidity in the summer. i kind of like it.

ok, i'm kind of annoyed - i think my husband took the camera cord to work with him which is annoying because i took a couple of good photos this morning, including an outstanding one of a pair of hooded mergansers!

[identity profile] scifi451.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
So what do you consider hot?
ext_15855: (Squish: Space cadet)

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's usually too hot for me here from about the end of April till about the beginning of October. I'm not sure what that is in degrees. And I get very irritable when people tell me "oh, that's nothing, it's much hotter where I live". They're usually right, but so what? I have a low tolerance for heat.

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
I think you mean 'anything above 60F' - brrrrrrrrrrrr!
ext_15855: (Squish Brain)

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's about right. I complained all last summer (http://www.livejournal.com/users/lizblackdog/121102.html) and the summer before and I will this summer, too. I LIKE THE COLD.

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Move to finland or something, you freak! You'll be hearing me complain about the cold all winter and enjoying the warmth all summer. :)

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
And you won't be surprised to learn that Maggie is the only reason we have AC. It'd be animal cruelty to crate her without AC on some of the summer days we have here.

[identity profile] scifi451.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
so what is the temp in Celsius? Since that is what you use over there I am pretty sure.

Ya can understand being irritable since every one reacts so different to heat.

[identity profile] vanessalp.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Then how about if I brag about how it's never too hot or cold where I am? :p

;^)

[identity profile] scifi451.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
I love this icon! LOL

Great pictures, although would love to see more of Squish. But good work.
ext_15855: (Squishy grin)

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
The thing with Squish is, he doesn't bounce about and draw attention to himself like Spike does. Spike'll be climbing trees and leaping tall buildings and Squish will be pottering along, completely absorbed in a scent on the ground - he's more photogenic than Spike in some ways, but he doesn't do stuff when we're outdoors. So I end up more focussed on Spike. But I'll try and do more of Squish.

[identity profile] carmine-rose.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Your dog's up a tree! How cool is that?

Can't wait to see more. They're lovely dogs!

[identity profile] entorien.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
I remember seeing Spike do that, it was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen a dog do. Jumping up to look over your Mum's fence was fun too!
