Villains always blink their eyes

So I've been catwatching in the mornings, instead of just throwing them their chicks and going to drink my coffee, and now I know why Fat Hamish Kitten is fat and the three girlcats aren't. I throw in four dead day-old chicks and each cat grabs one. The girl cats start playing with theirs, flipping them in the air, batting, mock-killing them before they start eating. Hamish doesn't bother. He grabs one, takes it to the corner cushion and MUNCHMUNCHMUNCH. This morning, he had finished his chick entirely before any of the others had actually started eating theirs.

So instead of leaving him to steal maybe all three of their chicks, I picked him up and took him for a photo-session, and shut the bedroom door so the girls could eat without being mugged by a greedy man cat twice their size.

I included my hand in the pics for scale. Please note I do not have tiny dainty little hands. He's not quite five months old yet and he really is that big.

Awwwwh, he looks just CUDDLY. I wish I could come lurve on him some!

he is utterly lovely to touch and hold and snuggle, although it's taken me two months of patience and food bribes to be allowed to touch him at all. He's painfully shy, poor darling.

and fat. but I am hoping that stooping him from eating all the chicks will sort that out.

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
he may be fat, but he is very cute!

I think so. I'm completely in love with him myself. He's still going on a diet though.

He's actually a worse foodhound than Squish is. Every time I go in the kitchen for anything he races in there at top speed and lands on the cardboard box with a THUMP like someone dropping a furry cannonball.

[identity profile] cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, thumping is a very bad sign. :)

Well, even at ideal weight he'd still be a huge cat - it's not ALL fat!

i am hoping that cutting back his chick intake (I've got a feeling he was stealing everyone's chicks) and the fact that he's still growing will take care of the oversize belly. I really don't want to do too much messing around with the food if I can help it.

cats are awkward bastards.

it's a double-edged sword, that food training.

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, it is.

of course, I am stupid. I should have realised from the beginning that there ought to be a special word meaning "I am about to give you food" so they didn't have to all turn up looking hopeful every time I go to make coffee or drop something into the bin.

as of today, the word is "catfood". I'm betting that they'll all continue to beg at other times anyway, though. They're more optimistic and more stubborn than dogs, and much more confident of bending me to their will.

You can see an Evil Plan (tm) forming in his eyes, in the second-last picture...

hah, he's a cat - when aren't they making evil plans?

[identity profile] myrystyr.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but how often do you catch them in the planning stages? :p

Not bloody often enough, true!

Oh he's precious!

thank you :)

I adore him myself!

Oh, he's a cutie!
Looks like he's been walking in paint :)

Heh - the four kittens were all wildly different in colouring, body type and character, but the white feet was the single thing they all inherited. I like white feets :)

Wow, he's grown up gorgeous!

He says thank you :)

He's super handsome, looks a bit like my cat Leo..Leo is also a shy cat, cept to me and the Mrs..he loves to sit in my lap (like now)

He does not however appreciate me looking at other cats *oww*

[identity profile] kiramowett.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What a cute boy. I want to reach into my screen to rub that belly!

[identity profile] ghost07.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! He's so beautiful!

You know, Julius is like that with food...the mere mention of the word, and he comes galloping up...but I know for a fact that Julius was abandoned and went hungry for a while...Hamish doesn't have that excuse...He's been living like a prince since the day he was born...:D

I love your cats...and your dogs, too, it's just that I can handle cats..:D

Rascal says that big bellies are beautiful.

*disclaimer: We're TRYING to get him to lose weight. It's just difficult when we're trying to get the other one to gain weight.

[identity profile] kyra-neko-rei.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, cutenesswhoaspazzzzz!

How do they get that big so fast? Iss weird. The next-door neighbors have one that they adopted from that family across the street when he was five weeks old (I complained about that here, I think), and he's huge, too. All black with the most perfect golden eyes and the softest fur . . .

Sooo lovely. *tries to reach through screen to pet*

[identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
well, in Hamish's case, he got that big by stealing everyone else's breakfast every morning till I put a stop to it!

he's been restricted to one chick for breakfast for about four days and I am already seeing a slight reduction in the spotted belly o'doom. So it looks like I won't have to mess with the rest of my feeding routine, just separate him from the girlcats for half an hour or so every morning. That makes me happy.

Yay!

(And happy Halloween. *is a pirate*)
