She had all the brains and the beauty

...I've loved Dire Straits since Makin' Movies was released, in 1980. John loved them too, and one of their songs is one of my theme songs. They're heavy, for me, with decades of meaning and resonance. I love it when people randomly remind me of things I turn out not to have forgotten.

Heavy Fuel

Skateaway

Tunnel Of Love

Sultans Of Swing

The Man's Too Strong

...thank you. So much.

(Breaking me out of the brainbleeding obsession with that Scissor Sisters song was just a bonus.)

I got Makin' Movies as a gift from Shatna :)

I looooove Dire Straits. I think Brothers in Arms may actually be my favourite song of anything ever.

Hey, would you like a hard copy of Communique (the one with Lady Writer and Single-Handed Sailor)? I was putting some of my CDs away last week, and discovered that I have two copies! I hadn't even realised, because they were at opposite ends of the Dire Straits section...

Dire Straits is entirely underrated. Hand in Hand was my favorite song by them as a kid. Romeo and Juliet was a close second.
