RAWRRRR!

We have to be at the vet's tomorrow at 8.30am with Hamish. Testicle Removal Day has arrived. He's already in a raging, furious sulk because everyone in the house got fed except him. I'm really not looking forward to trying to get him into the cat carrier in the morning. I still have the scars from last time. Wish us luck please!

In other news, my sister and her boyfriend came to visit today, and (despite my last-minute attempt to distract them with offers of pretty calico demon-cats) they are going to have Hamish and Saffron as soon as they've all had their gonads removed. We'll be making Saffron's appointment today. Still need to organise Naamah being done, but with no testicles in the flat it becomes a matter of rather less urgency.

I wish I could keep him.

Just...get Naamah done before she goes into heat. Trust me on this, my dear.

Warm fuzzy thoughts for you and Hamish on the morrow. Maybe he'll be so light-headed from fasting that it won't be a problem getting him in the carrier? Well, we can dream anyway.

I've experienced Cassie going into heat a few times, because I didn't want to put her through surgery while the kittens were tiny and relying on her feeding them, and of course she started cycling almost before they had their eyes open. So yeah, I haven't forgotten what a pain it is. It's just going to take some time and faffing about to either find someone to do subsidised spaying or pull the necessary money out of my arse.

Mum and I can get subsidised treatment for three pets each... Hamish is already registered there as hers (to be fair, we did think she was going to have him when we did that) and that leaves us with one cat over the limit.

I think I may have to use that last subsidised slot for Naamah and make my sister pay for Saffron. She won't like it but she and BF both have good jobs - it won't hurt them like it would hurt me.

^ Totally agree about the pre-heat thing. 100%.

I am soooo thinking about you tomorrow, Liz!

^ Oh. I didn't know about the subsidized spay and neuter you have going. Never mind me.

Still will be praying for your poor arms (and the rest of you), there!

good luck to you in getting Hamish into a carrier without being torn up in the process.

I tried to update twice today and both times I got an error message and my browser window closed itself. I'll try again tomorrow,

Carrier trick, thanks to Rufus who is PANICKED about carriers, possibly due to being trapped twice and definitely related to being in a carrier and falling off a table once.

Grab a towel. Wrap cat completely in towel, over head as well, so that he can't see what's happening. Place towel wrapped cat in carrier. Do not remove towel. He'll be so pissy about the towel that he won't be as hysterical about the carrier.

Good luck!

Damn you're clever. Next time Aida The Pointy Feets goes to the vet, I'm using that.

No, seriously, she grows extra legs with extra claws and everything.

Rufus is bad enough that not only does he have to be toweled, he has to go in the carrier with Fetch or he panicks and gets all hysterical and flings himself around.

Thankfully, I've not had to ever take just one of them to the vet, but if I did, I'd probably just bring them both anyways.

Hope the trick works for pointy Aida and soon to be ballless Hamish!

That's a good plan! Last time I used tuna to tempt him in and console him, but I can't when he's not allowed to eat anything before surgery. Thanks!

the falling off the table story reminded me - Naamah does that for FUN. That's how she broke my cat carrier - it was on top of the fridge and she broke into the utility room, climbed inside and pushed herself + carrier onto the floor.

I know it was on purpose because it happened three times.

Good luck with the cat ball removal. Getting clawed animals into carriers they don't want to be in is a pain in the ass.

It is sad to let them go, but at least you can visit and hear how they are doing. I had some updates on Eve's babies this week and photos and they are all so healthy and happy. I am glad Naamah gets to stay and I hope you don't miss them too terribly.
