Urgh, very slow to come awake today... the sun was shining earlier, but it looks like it's going to rain again soon. However, I can feel my brain starting to stir and fidget in the back of its dark, cluttered lair... I may be up for some actual creativity sometime soon, I hope... probably not in the Commies' Lounge (although Shameless did a couple of good posts last night) since I won't be there a lot longer anyway, but there's an interesting undercurrent starting to develop at Kelly'z in the Pub thread... we shall see what we shall see...

Dogs are very quiet and contented this morning, both curled up asleep - yesterday was the first day they've really had enough exercise in a while, what with the endless rain... the trouble is that I can't really use the front lawn when it's too wet, because they churn the grass up so much. It is a communal lawn and it's really meant for the children to play on, so I'm making a point of not turning it into a quagmire... not too much, anyway...
Went shopping in Winton this afternoon, since I've hardly been out of the house for days except to walk the dogs, which has hardly helped my mood. Bought Mum a selection of classy snacks at Waitrose for her birthday - she's almost impossible to buy for, she has everything she needs, she has a shitload of books stacked up waiting to read, she never listens to anything but Radio Two (she did like the Roy Orbison CD I bought her last year, but I think I've played it more than she has all the same). So I just got her stuff that I know she'll enjoy, even if it isn't lasting - those fancy crisps made of assorted root vegetables, Waitrose's own-brand version of Kettle Chips, a selection of dips and some Green & Black's dark fruit & nut and Maya Gold. I also found the handbag I've been wanting in the Age Concern charity shop - bigger than the one I've been using, made of patchwork (but real) leather and can be carried as either a shoulder bag or as a small backpack. It looks completely unused and I only paid two quid for it. Also in another charity shop were four DS9 tapes - nothing I haven't actually got, but mine are recordings off Sky One - I couldn't quite justify buying all of them but I did get Wrongs Darker/Inquisition, since those are episodes I particularly like - well, Wrongs Darker is, anyhow...

Note to self - do not park plateful of Chinese food in sticky sauce on top of the monitor again, even for a moment. I did this last week and I'm still removing traces of spare rib sauce from the grim, dog hair-filled No Man's Land behind the desk... and I've just noticed a smear of it on the wall that I missed the other two times I cleaned it. Ack...

And a good run in the park tonight. Max is much more focussed on me and didn't once attempt to run outside the park boundary. The two of them have also settled into a rhythm when it comes to having me kick/throw the ball for them - at first I needed to have someone else there, otherwise Max would lose interest and bugger off when I focussed on Spike, and Spike would get sulky and keep snatching the ball away because I was paying attention to Max. Now they take turns smoothly... I want to keep Max more than ever... Maverick the Boxer and Jakey the Yorkie were there and both hugely enjoyed running after the Black Pack when Spike did his 'steal Max's ball and run like hell' routine, although Jakey got run over at least once and neither of them have a hope of keeping up with my two... Jakey is the only dog I know as yappy as Max, and even his voice isn't quite as irritating. Max can do a deep, full-throated bark - I've heard him - so I'm hoping the nerve-shredding falsetto is a teenage thing that'll wear off as he gets older. Please...
