Because I'm such a dog nerd, and because it's so funny, I've kept a list of all the songs that make young Cooper Squish Hawkes yowl like a demented timber wolf with a beaver biting its bollocks... and because I've done very little other than self-abuse, napping and random Internet browsing today, I want to show you the list:
Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival
London Calling - The Clash*
I Fought The Law - The Clash*
Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin
Fire - The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh
Take a Walk On The Wild Side - Lou Reed (just the saxophone solo)
Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick - Ian Dury
Hello, I Love You - Doors
Please Don't Go - Them
Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd
Hold Your Head Up - Argent
Blitzkrieg Bop - Ramones*
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Ramones
Don't Bring Me Down - ELO
Deep Purple - Knocking At Your Back Door (just the intro, thankfully)
Edit - July 27 2005:
Pressure Point - The Zutons
You Showed Me - Lightning Seeds
The Joker - Steve Miller band
Minnie The Moocher - Cab Calloway
So It Goes - Nick Lowe
The Cure's cover version of "Hello, I Love You"
Edit July 30 2005:
Wild Boys - Duran Duran
Edit July 31st 2005
For the last two days he's reacted to every Ramones song I have on my playlist. *sigh*
Edit August 12th 2005
Games Without Frontiers - Peter Gabriel
Rock Lobster - B52s
Wild Witch Lady - Donovan
Edit Aug 30th 2005:
The Last Time - Rolling Stones. It's the twangly guitar that does it.
Edit October 10th 2005:
Closer - Nine Inch Nails
L.A Woman - The Doors
Transplants - Diamonds And Guns
Edit November 13th 2005
Last Resort - Papa Roach

Edit September 1st 2006
Dog Eat Dog, Jolly Roger, Kings Of The Wild Frontier - Adam and the Ants
Ca Plane Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand
Edit September 6th 2006
The Music never Stopped - Grateful Dead - it's Donna Bloody Godchaux and her failure to hold anything resembling a tune that sets him off with this one. Can't say as I blame him.
Edit September 8th 2006
Blues For Allah - Grateful Dead
Edit October 11th 2006
Sixteen Tons - Johnny Cash
Space Trucking - Deep Purple
Highway Star - Deep Purple (mildly)
Don't Bring Me Down - Status Quo (cover version of the ELO song)
London Calling - Captain Tractor (wildly different cover of the Clash song)
*I've tried him with several cover versions of "London Calling", "I Fought The Law" and "Blitzkrieg Bop", and I get the same reaction, so evidently it's the actual tune that sets him off. Or maybe the lyrics, who knows? He reacts especially intensely to The Exploited's version of London Calling and the Dead Kennedys' version of "I Fought The Law".
Also, the punk songs provoke shrill, staccato yawps and yelps, while the more melodious ones like "Rocky Mountain Way" and "Don't Bring Me Down" produce softer, longer howls. He's much more discriminating with music than he is with food, bless his annoying little heart...
Here he is singing along to "Whole Lotta Love": http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lizblackdog/squishhowl.wav
Am still too rampantly horny to think. Roll on tomorrow.
