I've lived in England since I was eleven. I'll never live anywhere else now. My mother's English, and when people ask, I say I'm English without any hesitation.
Today I watched Rageh Inside Iran, and it was borne in upon me just how... not English I am. I'll never go back there. I don't even want to live there. But there are bone-deep connections that can't be severed. If I left here tomorrow, I doubt watching a documentary about beautiful suburban Bournemouth would make me weep with homesickness.
