We were playing fetchy in the park this afternoon when two women with a German Shepherd and a teenaged Doberman turned up. I've seen these dogs around but never close to - I think they live backing onto the park or something, which meant the two strange dogs galloped right into the park loose and I never got a chance to avoid all the dogs being right in amongst each other.
But as it turned out, it was okay. Spike and the Shepherd gave each other a cold, hard, hostile stare, established that both of them were only interested in their respective balls and decided to leave each other alone. Which would have been no problem if it hadn't been for teenage!Doberpup and social retard!Squish.
They were actually adorable together, a great wibbly pile of big paws and awkward. Both of them kinda sorta wanted to make friends and have a good romp together; both of them were also terribly unsure of themselves and rather afraid of OMG BIG DOG THAT MIGHT EAT ME. They'd sniff noses for a bit, all hackles and wags and confusion, and then each run back to hide behind respective owner's legs. They would have made friends just fine eventually if Spike and the Shepherd hadn't both clicked into Overprotective Big Brother Mode and barged in guns blazing every time one of the younger two looked a bit nervous - sweet, admittedly, but really bloody unhelpful.
So I took them home before an actual fight had the chance to happen. But they did pretty good XD
