Whatever this world can give to me

I've fed everyone their dinner three hours early, I've emptied the dogs' water bowl, and I'm about to go to bed in order to be awake at a time more nearly my usual bedtime to take Spike in for surgery tomorrow.
The swelling and infection are much reduced, which will hopefully make it easier for the vet to discover and remove everything that isn't meant to be in there. I shall worry later about how the hell to keep dirt and foreign objects out of it while it's healing; we've got to get through tomorrow first. And yes, I know he isn't old and he's in good health and etc etc etc but they're still going to be knocking him out and I won't be there and AIIIIIE.
