I'm still here. Still incommunicado. Feeling a bit better though. Have defragged my hard drive and reread the entire Earthsea pentalogy - except Tales from Earthsea which is back at my mother's.

Expect to be back in the swing shortly.

Still haven't found that Gods-forsaken sodding poem, either. Gah.

Zoe and I have scoured our memories to no avail; I'm calling home tonight, so if I get my English Literature-degreed mother I'll see if she knows it.

What's your opinion of The Other Wind, by the way?

It's... odd. It fits with Tehanu, but neither really fit with the original trilogy. At the time I thought she'd have done better to leave it alone. But it's growing on me. Possibly only because I spent my teen years convinced I was a dragon who'd been given human shape by mistake, so it's a bit like all my Mary Sues brought to life by my favourite author...

*sudden sidetrack*

I really want to read Always Coming Home again now.

...oh, and the poem - the names coming into my head are Adrian Mitchell and Brian Patten. It may not actually be either of those, but I'm pretty sure it's someone contemporary and British. That's probably why I can't find it online, because it's recent enough for there to be copyright issues. I probably originally came across it in a compilation of modern poets. I did manage to check through a copy of The Rattle Bag in Waterstone's and didn't find it, but the sodding thing had no index of first lines (pauses to curse the publishers with suppurating boils) so I could, comceivably have missed it in there, but I'm pretty sure I didn't.

Glad you're feeling better

Defragging your hard drive is a sure sign of improvement! You'll be backing up, next!
