Bloody Squish has lost his pink plastic doughnut again. This time he lost the replacement doughnut, the one he'd bitten a hole in so it no longer squeaked. In theory this shouldn't have been a big deal, since he'd found the other one, but today's park time highlighted some flaws in that theory.

1. Both dogs can tell the difference between the old and the new doughnuts at a distance of ten yards or so.

2. The original doughnut was Spike's toy first, although Squish has played with it when Spike was busy with the squeaky blue ball.

3. The new doughnut was Squish's, although that never stopped Spike stealing it whenever he wanted to tease Squish or rub Squish's nose in Spike's Alpha Dog Grand Pooh-Bah Lord Of All Toys status.

4. After Squish got a nasty puncture in a disagreement over the squeaky blue ball last week (it's healing nicely, BTW) he won't attempt to touch Spike's toys. This doesn't apply to bones (Squish generally has the upper hand with bones), the red rubber tug toy or anything of Squish's that Spike steals, but it does appear to apply to the original doughnut.

All this meant that although I had a squeaky blue ball, the original squeaky pink doughnut and a spare tennis ball on me, I didn't have anything that Squish wanted to retrieve badly enough to risk being sharked by Spike (by which I mean Spike putting on his afterburners to cut in front of Squish at the last second and snatch the toy from under his nose. He won't do it too often if Squish plays with his own toys, but he'll do it nearly every time if Squish is playing with something disputed or commmunal) And that meant that Squish didn't see any reason he should play with me instead of taking off to harass Jane's horses. Fortunately he only barked at them once, didn't get too close and came back when I called him. Messing with horses is neither big nor clever...

I decided to leash them up and come home at that point. Must get some new toys soon...

And a new meme: I was going to leave these for a few days but this one was created by [livejournal.com profile] the_reader who's become sort of a friend since I randomly added him because I liked his icon and his writing style...

Lord knows I laugh. Or I would if the damn doughnuts didn't cost £2.50 each...

It is rather amusing to read about the Black Pack's park pranks. I do believe they know that their antics are known around the world, via your journal, and strive daily to give you new ones to write about.
On another note, have a doughnut for my dog that she would lose, or just decide not to retrieve, causing countless hours of searching on my part. I got tired of that shit so I tied a piece of bright yellow cord, about a foot long, to it so I could more easily see it in the grass or bushes. It worked. It also gave me something to grab when she didn't release it or she would try to grab it from my hand, sometimes nipping me instead. I believe you have recently had that experience, have you not? Anyway, I thought I would pass that idea on to you.

Yeah, don't know why I haven't done that yet... You'd think a bright pink doughnut would be visible against green grass, though, wouldn't you?

Well you know, not everything pink is always visible.*devious thought*
