...just finished Shards Of Honour by Lois McMaster Bujold. This was an author much recommended to me by all sorts of people I have high opinions of, so I was expecting it to be good stuff.

I was not, however, expecting to have my mind blown to an extent that I haven't experienced since... I don't know, first discovering Ursula LeGuin, perhaps.

Wow, just wow. Anyone who's not read her yet, go out and do it now.

many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] watervole!

Yes! Bujold is awesome, and I love Cordelia muchly. She's my favourite character in that series, despite being distinctly peripheral after the first two books.

She was great, but it wasn't just her... it was him, and the political stuff, and the contrast, and the plot that twisted and jumped like a twisty turny very fast thing... just, wow!

You should've been at Silvercon. Come to the next one!

Gaming weekend at [livejournal.com profile] watervole and [livejournal.com profile] waveney's.

The first one was last July as a way of celebrating their silver wedding anniversary, and everyone had so much fun they decided to do it more often.

...You're gonna love Miles *g*.

It does sound fun! But it's a long way, and I was busy on Saturday... Maybe some time I will.

Never heard of her, but I'll keep an eye out.

She's one of my very favourite authors. You have a lot of great reading ahead of you--the series only gets better from here. :)

I'll add it to the list... uh-oh, that list is so long it's starting to get a life of it's own!

I just read a lengthy review on that book. I admit, I'm intrigued....I'll put it on my "to read" list. Thanks for suggesting it. :)

Re: Shards of Honour

Well worth reading.

That icon is one of my favourite paintings in the world, too. Klimt rocks!

Oh, I've no intention of stopping! There's only one thing better than discovering a great new author, and that's discovering that your great new author has written about thirty more books and you're just starting out on them.

Hers get better and better! Though the next one you'll read (Barrayar) is one of my bestest favorites.

Also check out her fantasy series (the Chalion books)
