The foundations of reality are trembling. I am cutting down on coffee.

Mainly because I couldn't afford both coffee and cat litter this week, and the cat litter won. You can only ask a moggy to shit on shredded newspaper for so long, even if she was sprung on you unexpected.

Also, I was starting to wonder if five pints of black coffee a day might have been sapping my vitality. Sadly, I might have been right. I only had one pint yesterday and I did, actually, feel better.

Bloody 'ell. I'm scared I might find myself giving up smoking if this keeps up.

Jobs for today: finish the pimp entries, redo journal layout, sort out vet paperwork so I can register Cassie with my vet and make an appointment to have her checked out and find out how cheaply I can get her spayed.

Does your area have any shelters or charities that offer discounted rates on spaying/neutering? We have a few around here and it comes in quite handy.

Sadly, you will feel better drinking less coffee. Everyone talks about the sugar low after a sugar high, but few acknowledge that there is a corresponding slump if you drink a lot of caffeine. I think it interferes with sleep patterns and how restful your sleep is. On days I overdo it with caffeine, even if it is in the morning, I find that it is harder to get to sleep and I don't sleep as well.

Plus, all that coffee is hell on your kidneys. Caffeine prevents the fluid in your kidneys and bladder from effectively dissolving minerals.

Of course, smoking also saps your energy, but one vice at a time. ;)

Probably. The vet I'm registered with is one of those charities (http://www.pdsa.org.uk) but I'm not sure if they do spaying themselves - they should be able to point me to the cheapest option though.

spaying needs done, but since she isn't being let outdoors and can't escape (even if she darts out of the front door she'll find herself in a hallway with three more doors between her and outside) it's not a matter of huge urgency. But I won't be going round with an unspayed pet any longer than I need to, all the same. It's not right.

coffee: yeah. I just hate losing my vices, you know? I hate thinking of myself as a clean-living type. But I'm getting a bit too old to ignore them. And I hate being tired all the time. *sigh*

I've been feeling too crappy for that the last two weeks! Hence the need to alter other parts of my lifestyle...

That's not the only reason you don't want an unspayed pet. Female cats are really bloody annoying when they go into heat---my sister's cat Piper, for example, whom she's still saving up money to have spayed. If the going around yowling with her bottom in the air and the inspiring of guilt in my sisters and myself of her wanting sex and us not letting her get any were not bad enough, there's the arrival of every tom in the general vicinity and the spraying thereby. At least there's no sudden explosion of kittens; the apartment we're moving into specifically says, "ONE cat."

oh yes, that's another good reason. Although part of me does wonder if going through an uninhibited spell might influence her to accept the dogs more readily?

That doesn't mean I'll be deliberately waiting to spay her, mind you. It'll be done as soon as I can arrange it. It'll just be interesting to see what happens if her heat happens to beat me to it.

Contact your local PDSA,they should be able to help you get her spayed cheaply.

that's the vet we're registered with (and bloody good vets they are, too). I'm not sure if they do spaying themselves, but yeah, they should be able to point me to the cheapest option.

It's appropriate to the occasion. But since you're illiterate and you weren't there, you won't know what the occasion is. *grin*

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I quit smoking almost four months ago, and I have seriously never felt better in my life. I sleep better, I sleep less, I have so much more energy, and I really don't feel poisoned and shitty all the time.

That said, I still drink too much coffee. I should consider cutting back on that a little. :)

I'm fairly sure that I'll wake up one day with a real desire to stop smoking - it happened with heroin, and it's happened with fat (though I've relapsed some on that) and it's happening now with coffee. And then I'll have a go at giving up, but... that day hasn't happened yet. I still love it so much.

Aaaaaaaahahahahaha - you've owned a cat for what, two, three minutes, and you're already depriving yourself of coffee to be able to afford the things she needs?

Cat lady! Cat lady! See how easy it is for them to own us? ;D

hey, I'd do the same for my puppies! They just don't happen to need bags of overpriced sand to crap in.

*sigh* I'm also going to need one of those big litter boxes with a top on it. She's a kick-the-litter-round-the-room sort of girl, it turns out.
