Finally spent a bit of quality alone time with Cassiopeia. She's unbelievably affectionate and lovey when she's not all worried about dogs. She likes to lie on her back and grab at my hands with her paws and have her belly rubbed.

One real big worry though. She has a surprisingly big round belly on that lil' kitten body. And big nipples.

please, please, say it isn't so. vet check up just became a whole lot more urgent.

Uh oh.

Go quick, you might be able to manage a spay/abort depending on how far along she is. Eeeek.

that's what I'm hoping - well, i'm mostly hoping I'm WRONG but I don't think I am.

she's MUCH too young to have kittens, she's just moved here, I've never had a cat before - it's all kinds of bad news.

I don't suppose you could put your ear to her belly and listen for extra heartbeats?

I'll try. Damn it, I really hope she's not pregnant. :/

...tried that. The purring completely drowns any other sound there might or might not be. Bless her, she is SUCH a sweetheart!

Aw...she thinks you're just snuggling her. Gotta love affectionate kitties.

My mom once had a neighborhood stray spayed after she was already pregnant. The cat was only about 8 months old, sadly not much more than a kitten herself. There may be restrictions on kitty abortions but your vet would probably do one pretty close to birth time...just get her in quick.

That's it, she IS only eight months old. She's nowhere near full grown. If the vet will do it that's what's going to happen.

You keep putting my favourite things in your icons! I do just absolutely adore lilacs. :)

That does sound... ominous. If you get a chance before her vet appointment you can try resting a hand on it and seeing if you feel any movement, or maybe she'll let you have a gentle prod so you can feel for shapes. I hope she's just a naturally big nippled kitty with maybe just a run of the mill case of worms (when Cynthia was tiny and had 'em she looked like she'd swallowed a baseball, but they cleared up easily). I'm so glad she's got you right now either way. Fingers crossed for ya hon!

I've squeezed and prodded some. I don't feel movement or shapes - maybe I'll be lucky and there aren't kittens.

I'm trying to mentally compare her nipples to Maisie's, but Cassie's are pink and Maisie's are black, so I'm going to have to go to Mum's and look at Maisie to be sure.

the lilac is a reference to - a thing that didn't happen. I'm rather pleased with the look of the flowers against my journal. Ever read Terry Pratchett?

No I haven't - had to google him, even though the name did sound familiar. His books look like fun reads - I think I'll keep him in mind for the next time I have the flu and need a good dose of escapism!

I was thinking Starbuck was pregnant and rushed her into work last week to get her spayed/aborted. But when I shaved her belly there was what looked like an old spay scar (so maybe shave her tummy and take a look--or at least have the vet do it before putting her under) My doc had me take an x-ray and there were steel spay sutures so I don't have to worry about her being pregnant. She must just be liking what I'm feeding her to get so pudgy so fast.

Though we did find out that she has a bladder infection while examining her....so it was a good thing I took her in anyway.....plus she's now current on all her vaccinations.

well, downstairs neighbour couple have known her all her life and they say she's definitely not spayed yet, nice as that would be.

I suspect this is why the ex-owners dumped her on me this way without so much as a phone call. Wankers. I hope to hell she's not too far along to get spayed anyway. She's not very bulgy and I can't feel distinct shapes in there or anything.

She really does not need to be dealing with kittens on top of everything else at her age.

Well, I know at my hospital they do pregnant spays. So I'd just get her in some place they do them right away.
