Shit, shit, shit, shit. Spike did something to his left wrist this evening when that squirrel leapt over his head. He did do some quite spectacular aerobatics trying to catch it - he must've landed wrong. He's limping badly on it now.

Have looked over and felt it very carefully and there's nothing bleeding, loose, crunchy, sticking in, sticking out or making him wince, so it looks like a pulled muscle type thing. I'll see how a night's rest affects it before I do anything. This happened once before and he was fine inside 24 hours.

note to self, check LJ for the last time it happened. Was it the same leg? Because that'd be a worry.

ETA: Arse. Why the hell didn't I say which bloody leg it was? But it was a year ago, so it doesn't necessarily mean he has a recurring bad leg. I hope.

My Allie has a trick knee that goes out occasionally. I remembered to mention it to a vet once and they just said "it's a trick knee" and didn't suggest any treatment. She's what, 13 now? and it still goes out occasionally but no more than before and hasn't led to any problems. She still tears across the lawn like a cartoon character. Maybe/hopefully that's all that Spike has - a trick wrist.

It could be something like that. I can't bear to think of anything wrong with him.

he's not limping this morning, anyway. phew.

thanks :)

*kisses the Spike* Poor baby those squirrels are just bad news. I hope he is ok.

He's not limping this morning, anyway. I'll make him take it as easy as I can for a day or so but he seems fine. Phew.

thanks :)

My mother's dogs (all four of them) generally have the run of her whole 20 acres, and they're often coming back with a thorn in their paw or a sprain from all their jumping around and explorations in the deep woods. They always heal within a few days, if it takes that long.

I hope that's the case with Spike, and that he's better tomorrow, too.

I think he must have twisted or bumped it. He's not limping this morning, anyway, thank goodness.

Thankfully, no trace of a limp this morning. I'd think it might have been an obscure revenge for the pancake caper if he hadn't looked so miserable about it...

Seems like it now - no trace of a limp this morning. I shall be a bit careful of him the next day or so, though.

he's not limping now but - it's happened twice. He really wasn't doing much that he doesn't do normally, although he was doing it rather harder than usual.

it's just hitting me. He's four, he's not old but he's not a puppy any more either... it's so hard to get my head round him being mortal.

oh goodness, welcome to my world, charlie is forever hurting himself in some way. he's a dingus.

Spike has hurt himself many times - barbed wire, wankers leaving broken glass in the park - but it takes a LOT to make him act like he notices it. Last year he hit a piece of glass and near as damn it sliced his pad off but that didn't make him limp, it just made him impatient and pissed off.

He gets so sad and emo and confused when his leg won't do what he wants it to. It's very hard to take - although I remember that Charlie does that every time. That sucks for both of you.

Yeah. It happens so frequently that I'm used to it by this point. It's still sad, though, when he gets cold tail and can't sit down because he can't control his tail and it gets all crunched under him. :(

It's so difficult to see them suffering. Maggie with hurty foot in the winter is horrible - such pitiful crying, worse than you've ever heard. :(

I'm lucky that Spike is generally so very un-bothered by things - usually he's just pissed off at having his activity restricted. But it does make it harder when he is upset like he was last night.

Squish, pn the other hand, will make a noise like he's being tortured if you step on his toe by accident, and he keeps it up till he's kissed better and cuddled and consoled. he's my cute spotted wuss-boy :)

awwwwwwwww.

*hands out a million meatballs to the poor suffering pups*
