Dog Walk In July - 21 Dog Walk In July - 21

There are odd reminders out here that we're within throwing distance of people's houses.

When we get out of the tunnel I can let Spike off the lead. I took this picture on account of not having four hands.

OH YAY TIME TO PLAY!!!! WHERE'S MY TOY, WOMAN??!!!
Dog Walk In July - 24 Dog Walk In July - 24

Find it yourself, Spike!
Dog Walk In July - 25 Dog Walk In July - 25

We are in another tunnel, a bigger one that is far enough from any roads to let Spike off the leash. Squish is still on-leash because his recall is iffy and he likes to explore for miles, but I have swapped him to the longer leash for the duration.

HERE'S MY TOY!!!

I leave the toy out here, because if I walk round with an OMGTOY!!! in my pocket Spike becomes WAY TOO EXCITED to behave and just keeps jumping on me and trying to pick my pocket.

It's only a length of knotted rope, so no one's likely to steal it.
Dog Walk In July - 27 Dog Walk In July - 27

Throw it for me??
Dog Walk In July - 28 Dog Walk In July - 28

YAYYY!!! Fetch the rope!

A knotted rope is a versatile toy!

I love my knotted rope!

Spike's-eye view of me trying to leash him

I'm still trying to leash him. Another "I haven't got four hands" picture...

Why yes, it is a bit of a performance getting the leash back on Spike when he's all amped up, why do you ask?

Incidentally, a good view of the repaired patch on his harness here!

Home again, and Cassie comes and rubs against Spike's legs!

Great pictures! sooo...is Cassie teasing Spike, or is she just glad to see him? :D

How many burrs can you pick off your collie in 5 minutes? begin....NOW! and count out loud...:D

...is Cassie teasing Spike, or is she just glad to see him?

Both. She rubs against him affectionately and smacks him whenever she wants him to move or the staring gets too much.

I was lucky, he only had seven or eight burrs on him altogether. Just part of the joy of long-haired dogs!

That also goes for long haired cats, who don't even get outside! Cuddles would pick up those little tiny burrs from me whenever I came back inside...lol

Oooh, don't get me started about burrs.

Half a bloody hour I spent today wrestling with the cat trying to get the blasted things out of her fur.

SO annoying! These were goosegrass burrs which are more or less everywhere round here all year round, because the old dry plants hang around long after they die off. They're small and clingy and Spike gets them in places like his ears and between his toes. Bastard things.

Two words for you: Arse. Hole.

Or near enough that you don't want to pick them out by hand, and you definitely need to be careful with the big metal dog brush (her hair's really, really thick) in case it goes anywhere it shouldn't and you get a very pissed off cat.

eeeeeek!

OK, Spike hasn't had arse burrs yet but I did have to pick them off his dick last week...

Luce and Spike are the same dog really, aren't they?

Knotted rope is SO useful. I can leave the damn thing out there... if I try and carry it with me he becomes too apeshit to function properly.

Heh, those two would go utterly bananas up here. For long long walkies it's just perfect, though you've always got to have an eye out for stray sheep - they've a good knack for ending up where they're not supposed to be.

So has Squish!

Although I would dearly, dearly love the chance to teach Spike something of the woirk he was bred to do...
