It's actually, finally, cold here. Last night I had to sleep with a cardigan on and a pointer on my feet. It was marvellous. Call me a freak (and I know [livejournal.com profile] cottonmanifesto will, little tropical hothouse blossom that she is) but I spent too many years living outdoors to feel anything but stifled if the air's too warm for goosebumps.

It felt almost as though it might freeze tonight - it's one of those beautiful crystalline nights where the air fizzes in your blood and the stars feel close enough to smell, and Spike misbehaves from sheer joie de vivre.

All I need now for perfect joy and happiness is three feet of snow. *wishes hard*

Snow? Is that that white stuff that falls from the sky?

You can have it! Ick! :)

I hope so. We almost never get snow here though - I really should move further north.

On moving...

Heh... we get snow every winter. And the lake freezes over, thick so the island ferry path is reduced to one channel kept open by an ice breaker. Oh... and we're about a thousand miles or so _South_ of you... (G)

Re: On moving...

Oh hush, you!

Tempting as it is, I can't see hauling all the dogs and cats quite that far. Besides, I'm rather attached to this island.

(also YAYYY! I was just wondering how you were doing)

Re: On moving...

Hmmmm.... Hush, and a veiled hint I don't talk enough. Ah, well. Consistency is supposedly the watermark of the limited mind... (G).

Well, as a mere, naive, ignorant provincial it was incumbent on me to move to, um, a province. And thrice YAY! Nobody can give me grief anymore for the quote... (BG).

As to the how and the doing... Well, this week I have rather too many hats ( I'm standing in for me, my boss { who has been on two week's vacation}, the senior Incident Coordinator { one week's vacation} and one of my prime technical resources). But that's OK, because we guv'mint workers sit round all day doing nothing and getting paid a fortune. Or so I'm told... (VBG).

As to the rest, well apart from a small drama last week ( my dearly beloved stubbed her toe, fell over and introduced the back of her head to the sharp edge of a wall corner. Head wounds bleed a _lot_... nearly two square metres of blood pool on the floor by the time I got back), life is... jolly spiffy! Fall is turning over fast, and the leaves are wandering from russet gold to blood red ( Fall maple leaves are amazing). We're past the typical peak of colour now, and November will be a little more subdued. But then Winter will come and the snows will fly... And I will continue to upset Canucks around me by walking through the whole thing in short sleeves. It took me a year or so to work out what people were saying when they kept asking me if I had lost my toque ( pronounced ' took', and intended to point out to me that I should be wearing a hat). I even had a police car pull up alongside me once and was asked if I had been mugged and had my non-existant jacket stolen... (G).

I may live in a city, but even over the city's neon spirit glow I can see the stars. And we have real _big_ skies here...

You are insane. 3 feet of snow. Ack. Ick. Eww. Me no like snow. The dogs love to roll in it, but they don't have to shovel it!

From: [identity profile] mcsassypants.livejournal.com

YAY!!! I'm wishing for snow here too! The only "down" side to it being cold is that now Rascal will settle into anyone's lap as long as they sit still for more than 30 seconds.

Naamah Kitten does that too. It's nice, except I feel like such a heel when I have to move her to go pee or something.

From: [identity profile] mcsassypants.livejournal.com

Oh, I know! I feel so bad moving Rascal, especially when he gives me the "But...I just got comfortable!" look.

I'll have the cold crisp mornings and the bright winter sun, and the extra layers on the bedclothes, but please NO SNOW.
- I've not got the boots for it
- I've got bugger all balance and weak ankles and I hate hate hate falling over in it.

From: [identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com

No bootsd is a bugger. I'm extremely grateful for my Doc Martens - though they need breaking in again. I've been wearing flat shoes and the DM wedge sole made my back ache last time I wore them.

Great ankle support, though - and i have dodgy ankles too so I feel your pain!

omg! that sounds HORRID.

it's in the 60s here today, it rained last night, and this morning was wonderfully glittery and colorful. perfect.

According to Yahoo it's between 33F and 49F today. PERFECT!

Up here in Scotland right by the sea, it's frakking freezing! Though I quite like it a lot of the time, I like crisp bright nights, and I confess that I'm quite fond of dressing up all warm in coats and gloves. Though I could do with some fuzzy eaf-muffs.

One of these days I'll get off my arse and move up North, or Wales. The climate at this end of the island really doesn't suit me, and winter after winter with no bloody snow depresses hell out of me.

I'm lucky, I have a furnace metabolism. All I need to do to be warm is just not to be standing still - walking the dogs tends to overheat me even in cold weather. Ears and all.

From: [identity profile] missfoxie.livejournal.com

Ohhh, totally move up North. Or yes, Wales is good (incidentally, what do Spike and Squish think of sheep?). Though I always imagined you living somewhere like that already.

I like the cold more than I like it being unbearably hot. You can always get warmer but getting cool is much harder.

From: [identity profile] jj79.livejournal.com

You want cold? It's been freaking colder than it has any rate to be here for the last two months. Cold and rain...lethal combination.

I'd prefer snow to rain, but I prefer either to summer...

It's been like that here recently. The other night it was in the high 20s, and I stood out on the deck and it felt like I could see to California, maybe to South America, the sky was so breathtakingly clear, the stars bright outside, and the chill of the air against my skin.

I'm with you on the cold. :) We had our first frost yesterday too. I love fall and winter best. :)

From: [identity profile] lady-alethea.livejournal.com

I absolutely hate the hot weather here... which, of course, is 90% of the time (its freakin' 80* here today!) and I wait with bated breath every year for the very, very, very short "winter" we have... When the air is cold and crisp and the moisture in the air has the branches all glittery and frosty... Its too wet and cold when it is cold to snow, so we very rarely ever see any white stuff.

I'm jealous that its already cold there. I'm like you... As long as my hands are warm, I'm fine. My favorite thing to do after the first cold snap is pile all the dogs in the bed and the blankets piled high, a bottle of wine and black and white movies. I usually open the windows just to be sure it stays cold in the room, lol.

I can't wait.

From: [identity profile] huntingdon.livejournal.com

Almost certainly a frost here tonight. Can't wait!

Except the boiler at work isn't working so I'll freeze to death there... We'll have to dig out the promotional blankets again.

From: [identity profile] miz-geek.livejournal.com

I didn't know they had black and white corgis! Oh, wait, not that kind of cardigan :)

I feel kind of ambivalent about winter. I kind of like the cold, but I wish I could be home while it's still daylight. The dark and gloom start to get to me :(
ext_15855: (Default)

From: [identity profile] lizblackdog.livejournal.com

That's my only beef with winter, the lack of daylight.

From: [identity profile] tenna.livejournal.com

Weirdo!! I hate cold! Anything below 75 is TOO COLD. Brrrr!

I'm just glad it perked you up enough to be on AIM, I've missed talking to you :D
