Step 1: Put your entire media library on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) of the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: NO CHEATING

Note: I collect cover versions and some of these are not as obvious as they seem. Half a point for the song, half a point for getting the artist right too.

1. Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
3. Ohio - CSNY
8. The Weight - The Band
16. A New England - Kirsty MacColl
17. 1952 Vincent Black Lightening - Richard Thompson

Yeah, I could only get the easy ones. I know I've heard covers of at least three of these, so who knows which artists you might have. I guessed one cover artist.

#3 on Danasaur's list is tantalizingly familiar. Dammit.

YES!!! I used to have one by the Sex Pistols too, but I lost that when the hard drive died.

I had no idea the sex pistols covered that song...musta been interesting.

Jimmy Buffet, Disneyworld, and Universal Studios pretty much own Florida, so I get to hear that song fairly often.

also, randomly, I can't believe I didn't get any Canadian songs - between the Worms, the Tragically Hip and Captain Tractor I have a startling quantity of it.

19. Praise You by Fat Boy Slim

appalled that I didn't know more that hadn't already been done!

Clever lad! I had a feeling you'd know the Goldfrapp one (I think you sent it to me) but I didn't expect you to know Dylan and especially not the Dead. Colour me surprised.

I wasn't sure that they weren't covers or something, but... yeah. Hippie parents, what can I say?

17 is a great song; I heard it on Radio Paradise for the first time a couple of weeks back. Thompson has a great reputation, but often fails to really grab me, but this was a definite exception.
