[Poll #1050350]
As you can see, I'm falling in love all over again. Every time I go back to Farscape after a spell of not watching any I ask myself incredulously how I managed to live without it this long. It really is the show that has everything: emotional complexity, depth of character, good writing, kickass women with guns, Ben Browder in tight leather, huge explosions and Muppets. And Scorpius, who gets a sentence all to himself. That face-licking thing of his... *shiver*
So. Damn. Bloody. Good.

"Oh there is no expanse of the mind the will cannot traverse,
Or phsyically the distance laid across the universe,
His blessings many in the stars save one lamented curse:
That sixteeth Rygel, glory me, should travel in reverse!"
That whole episode, muah.
Or! Crichton wearing PUKE! "Crackers Don't Matter", muahahah...
...I like the insane mindfuck episodes the best. (g)
Crichton: What the hell is this?
Zhaan: Heat-reflecting paste. You'll burn up in there without it.
Crichton: Smells like puke.
Zhaan: I predigested it to increase its potency.
Crichton: It's PUKE?!
Crichton: ::starts making hero-soundtrack noises, strikes a pose::
Aeryn: ...We are going to die.

I'm still deciding on an ep for the poll, but I'll get back to it. Remind me if I forget.

It's probably moot, because I doubt I'm going to convince this particular friend to try it, for various reasons. But I still want to know what people think.

So many great eps, but so many of them rely on back story. So I'd probably start at the beginning, given that Farscape's pilot ep is one that deals with all the necessary universe setup in an unusually succinct way and sets up the core characters brilliantly. It's one of the show's (many) strengths: However uneven some of the early (and later) episodes are, the characters were themselves from day one and the actors owned their characters completely. The show's almost unique in that sense.
So after all that, I'd probably vote for the pilot ep.
(Btw, I've shrunk that icon. Lemme know if you want it.)

Here be the icon. I know you'll be nice and credit me if you ever use it

Why so difficult?
Ended up going with The Way We Weren't for several reasons:
[*] Top notch acting from all concerned, especially the muppets
[*] The revelation of full, compelling backstories for character.
[*] It's the one I used in uni to hook my housemate ;)
From:
Well, the restaurant, it, uh, sort of burned down - I don't want to talk about it,
Thank you, though. That's what I want; episodes to hook someone. It's hard for a longterm fangirl to tell whatll work best on someone coming to it fresh.
...also, I really need a D'Argo icon. *runs off to find one*

Re: Why so difficult?
I'm very fixated on D'Argo right now, because he's so kickass and he's Captain. I never was before.

goodbadgoodbadinteresting complex guys! Not that BSG isn't faboo and all. But it's not Farscape calibre, in my utterly unhumble opinion.

Anyway, despite all that it is still one of the best (if not the best) Sci-Fi show ever!
PS - On the poll, I really can't think of one, because as others have mentioned some of the better episodes (in my opinion) really rely on one knowing the show fairly well. Perhaps you should start at the beginning, or at least one of the first season episodes at least.

Mind you, the person I'm thinking of liked Buffy and Angel, so I don't think non-humans'll be a big issue. It's just convincing them to try it, and I was hoping for a good place to start. I'm not sure Episode One is it; yes, it explains stuff, but the episodes after it aren't Farscape's best. I have a feeling the later stuff might be more... hooking.

I think the later seasons are stronger, but I wouldn't think you'd want to start too late. (Although we started watching Buffy at season 4 and look how we turned out.) I think the funny episodes work better if you know the characters, although they tend to be my favorites. The Way We Weren't might be a good choice. Not too far along, gives some backstory, nice and dark (if he's a fan of Buffy & Angel).
