It's morning, I've had my coffee and I am finally getting dressed. Spike and Squish know that we will have OMGMORNINGWALKIES as soon as I'm dressed enough to go outdoors without risk of arrest, so they're very, very excited.

This is nothing new. Spike's default state is excited. I find it a bit wearing in the mornings but I can deal. It's when his sense of humour cuts in that he defeats me.

So I'm standing in the bathroom, almost three-quarters awake, in my bra and underpants, working up to locating my T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms. And I pause a moment, to stand and yawn, and stretch my arms above my head, as one does.

Spike snuck into the bathroom behind me, launched into a flying leap and hit the small of my back with both front paws, at the perfectly-timed moment to knock me off balance and send me faceplanting into the toilet. I didn't quite go over - I've lived with this clown too long to be caught that easy - but it was a close thing. I turned and there he was, sitting demurely on the laundry pile with the smuggest grin you ever saw pasted onto his beautiful face. Got you good, Ma!

I love that thrice-damned dog so fucking much.

One assumes his scoring system awards extra style-points for proper split-second timing to maximize inconvenience, embarrassment and/or surprised (therefore amusing) facial expressions?

The smug grin really is a tip-off, isn't it?

I think he bases his scoring on how loudly I swear afterwards XD

i think puppy earns his points by tripping me during the rush to find my misplaced cell phone before it stops ringing. i swear i've seen that same smug grin looking up at him from the floor. its a game to him every time that phone rings.

heh, Puppy!

Squish is my tripper-upper. He has the infuriating habit of suddenly stopping dead when he smells something on a walk - well, he's a pointer, it's what he's meant to do. But when he's on-leash and we're all moving forward at Spike-speed, I can't stop anywhere near as fast as he can.

But Squish doesn't have a sense of humour. It takes a herding dog to do that sort of thing on purpose.

Oh, he didn't hurt me; just shoved me off balance. It's one of our games while we're playing ball, actually, and he has a command for it too. It's rare for him to do it spontaneously outside ball games - he just had more devil than usual in him this morning. My evil bugger.

Still :) (so then it's okay that I laughed when I read your entry?)
I do love his sitting on the laundry all pleased action, that is just great.
