Naamah is an awkward bastard to photograph, because she never keeps still and she's fascinated by anything I'm doing. I have about 2000 blurred close-ups of her nose butting the camera lens and almost none of her doing anything else.

This morning I was woken up by Squish whining his head off in tattletale mode. He had woken me up to tell me that Spike had realised he could open the cat room door. He can only open it from one side, though, so he had shut himself in with the cats and couldn't get out. He didn't consider this a problem, but Squish and the cats were less than pleased. Bloody collie.

He would certainly never hurt them intentionally. But he gives them no peace, and they're accustomed to their bedroom being a No Collie Zone.
I shut them in the cat room at night and if I'm going out and leaving dogs at home, for two reasons: one, Spike won't eat his food or sleep if the cats are accessible, and two, the possibility of accidents with all four unsupervised in a small space. Spike is obsessive, stays glued to cats and likes to poke them to make them move if they hold still too long, or back them into corners and pin them there. Squish is guardy and can get snappy if Spike or a cat gets too near his bone or his space on the couch. Both dogs are excitable and much bigger than cats. Neither dog has bad intentions towards cats, but - I can see ways things could go wrong, so they're not left all together unsupervised, ever.

oh, I didn't mean to sound all lecturey at you! I like to set it down in black and white for anyone else who happens to be reading and wonders why I lock my cats up at night, that's all.

Cassie is a poppet. I love her so much.

perhaps one of those child-proof doorknob covers would help prevent spike from gaining entrance again.

possibly. Though that door has a handle... I'll think of something, I dunno. Maybe I'll just shut them in for a couple of hours while Spike has supper and then let them out again? Though that would expose me to cats sitting on my face in my sleep, which I really do not want.

Ahh, how I miss cats. Next door is away at the moment so we're looking after theirs; the temptation to smuggle them back is almost overwhelming, though Poppy being the thick lump of Lab that she is would probably try and eat them (and discover in short order why that's not a good idea).
