Today Spike saw, and did not bark at, three other dogs. One of them was - I shit you not - less than ten fucking feet away.

I haven't been doing classes or anything. I haven't even got my head together to organise another dog owner to be a stooge holder, as I've been vaguely meaning to and might still. I've just been taking every opportunity that comes our way when we see other dogs. I move back (if I have to) to a distance at which Spike can keep his shit together, then reward for looking at other dog while keeping his shit together. I think maybe I've got better at keeping my own shit together, and Spike's responding to that as much as anything.

Also, yesterday we were playing ball at the park at the same time as some small children playing football (this happens most days now, because it's become too hot now to let Spike run until early evening, after school and homework). One of the kids kicked the football a bit wild, and it rolled RIGHT in front of Spike's nose. He's come a long way from the days when I used to have to remove him from the park if anyone wanted to play collie-free football at all; but he couldn't resist that one. He grabbed it, and sat there clutching it gleefully for a moment. The kid looked dismayed. I looked at Spike and said. "That's not yours. Go get your own." And he did, as I knew he would. I love my dog.
