So, just got off the phone with the head vet at our practise. He's had the path results rechecked and they suggest a benign growth based in the blood vessels, but one that MAY be growing quickly enough to become a problem or that may be being irritated by another factor into becoming a worse problem.

Current working theory on the bone changes in Spike's x-rays are that he has a bone cyst. This could be the thing that's interacting with the tumour to make it a possible problem. Vet says this is also treatable, but he wants to do more x-rays and possibly another, deeper biopsy because clearly our best chance of finding a treatment that will make this shit go away depends on us finding out what the fuck's actually going on in there.

Vet: *enthusiastically* I've never actually repaired a bone cyst before.
Me: *resigned* Want to?

So he's going back in Friday morning for another general anaesthetic and more exploratory rooting around and radiation. Referral to a (non-charity-subsidised) specialist remains a possibility, but first we have to work out what the fuck kind of specialist we're going to need.

*sigh*

And you will give us all the information as soon as you have it all together.

Every time I go to the Ren faire there's this act of comedic sword fighters who do this playfully hypnotic routine with their swords while repeating, "Remember the hat. Remember the hat. Put the money in the hat." If it works at a Ren faire it'll work on you.

Remember the hat. Remember the hat. Put the money in the hat.

As long as there's a way people can send it directly to the vet, with clear proof that it's going where I say it is, I will.

I am quite certain you personally don't doubt my good faith, but I won't open myself up to there being any doubts from anyone ever on that score. I've seen too many people scamming online, I won't do anything that could be taken to look that way ever.

thank you <3

I had a friend who was dying of cancer who set up an online donation fund to pay for his care (you know, America. Ahem. Every month he would send me receipts of his medical costs, and what was paid, reconciling what I gave him. You know, he didn't have to do that, and I certainly understand why he -- and you -- feel that way. With that said, I would be happy to send money directly to your vet.

perhaps talk to your vet if they have a way to accept donations directly. i'd be willing to mail off a check to them.

Dude, I would send you money for fancy teas if that could be considered a crisis. I love you guys.

omg I love fancy tea. Today's blend: blackcurrant, organic three-ginger blend, Twinings mango/orange/cinnnamon and organic liquorice.

I impulse-bought green tea with pineapple and grapefruit the other day too. Smells great but the green-tea-ness overwhelms the fruit a bit too much for my taste in practise. I wish I liked actual tea a bit more. I used to, but I've been off it for years now.

I can't decide if it's a good-news or bloody-hell ._.

...Khuriya??

OMGHAI WELCOME TO MY OTHER WORLD.

It's not "YOUR DOG IS ABOUT TO DIE" news and no one's found actual cancer either, so I'm calling it a win. As long as I have treatment options, I can deal.

*cackles* Me, yes ~

HELO THAR ~

*nods* And that makes sense. Much better than it could be, even if the present is coming down to Bloody Weird Dude ...

That's good hear it's benign!

Wow, though, it's just like the growth that our Shadow had on his elbow, that gave us that big scare. The location of Spike's cyst would be tricky, though. Here to them getting what they need to fix the cyst in good time!

Well, it's more like "benign right now, but the vet's concerned that the cyst/infection/something else may be irritating it into turning malignant." But we still have options and the possibility of making it go away still exists so I'm calling it a win.

Thank you! <3

You guys have really been through the wringer Liz. Poor Spike give him a big hug for me

It could be a lot worse. At least his symptoms are minimal and not affecting his quality of life. I'm going to pull out all the stops I can to keep it that way.

thank you <3

The good news: It's not cancer. The bad news: Spike you are SUCH a weirdo!

But we know that and we love him. :-)

continuing to send good vibes spikes way and yours.

I can see how it's location could be irritating...every time he eats, or grabs something irritates it. I'm thinking of you both and praying they can just get rid of it...soon.

Take care.

oh, and by the way, except for the licorice, that tea combo sounds lucious...I hate licorice.

freaking collies. nothing is ever easy with them!

yay for no cancer! boo for more surgical intervention! i hope that everything goes well on friday, and that they can figure out what the heck is going on in spike's head ;)

We'll hope and pray they sort this out. And he'll heal and time will pass and he'll annoy you again and life will be fine.

Everyone here is thinking good thoughts for Spike. I even told the beasts they need to be thinking hard in his direction, but I suspect they have no idea what I am talking about.

In either case, although I may be having a hard time regarding money suddenly around these parts, let me know if you can set up donations for him, and if I can do anything to help, I will.

Glad to hear not cancer, hears to more good news or at least not bad news for spike. Hope it turns out well.
