Am reading the first of a trilogy [livejournal.com profile] topbit lent me, a B5 spinoff about Technomages. (Casting Shadows by Jeanne Cavelos, if anyone wants to know. It's good.)

The book goes into somewhat more detail about the Technomages' abilities than the series ever did, and one of the things they can do is mentally message each other. It's described rather like an email... the message arrives in the brain, and the recipient has to think about it to open it. I caught myself wishing I could do that; and then I realised that if I could I would just be sending so much porn spam!

Bad Liz. Down, girl!

Maybe not 100% - there was a little left over for reading the book and remembering how to work my LJ...

remind me to wear rubber waders if I ever go wandering about in your head then LOL

(oh, you forgot the section where you have all the DS 9 episodes memorized by title!)

Oh, that counts as porn, darling. Very few things make me hornier than DS9...

I hope so!

Actually, Cardassians being vaguely reptilian looking, there was a running joke among the actors that he had two....

Hehe, was reading this comment (and YES Cardie ridges are sexy!!), did you read that "Admiring Fools" fic I linked? It has an *interesting* interpretation of Cardassian anatomy.

But LOL re: the "two appendages" discussion by the actors! Where did you read that??

There used to be stories that Vulcans either had 2 or that they were forked

B5 books are on my list of next books to read, now that I've finished reading all HP books that is.

Will have to check if the library has them and become a member .. otherwise order them over the net.

Some of the ones I've seen are the same sort of thing as the older Trek novels - amusing enough but not great - but this trilogy, and the one I read before it (The Psi Corps trilogy, J. Gregory Keyes) were brilliant - more along the lines of the DS9 Relaunch. Bloody excellent.

yeah, it's the trilogies and a couple of loose books I want to read. I got a list from Sue :D

I dont know the book in question...but I can tell you that empathic communication isn't just a myth. I mainly communicate empathically with animals, but that's just because I relate better to them. Humans arent a great species and are generally far less pleasant and interesting. The same techniques apply though. It's real time, not delayed like email though. That's just my experience though. Who knows what's possible?

This is very true. My Border Collie (pictured) is especially good at it, and I have experienced it with humans as well; [livejournal.com profile] huntingdon and I do it regularly in a platonic sort of way.

Really, though, at the time I was just thinking of a particular person whose mental inbox I'd have been flooding that night. Probably just as well one can't automatically do it at will.
