Remember my downstairs neighbours' new dog?
We managed to do something about correcting our initial bad impressions tonight. Met the neighbours sans dog coming back from the Conservative Club and spent some time chatting. Then they went back in, and she came out with dog - obviously he needed a pee straight away after being left in all evening. We were just on our way back in. Neighbour was all set to avoid us like mad, but since this time Spike wasn't already wound up and angry, wasn't taken by surprise and had just come from being loved and petted by the same lady walking New Dog, he was curious and tailwaggy rather than "KHAAAAAAAAANN!!".
He introduced himself and Squish and there was much wagging and sniffing of noses for a minute or so, until New Dog's nerve broke and he snapped... either he hadn't forgotten Spike threatening to kill him the last time, he found the two of them at once a bit overwhelming or else Squish committed a social gaffe (he's immeasurably better than he used to be, but he'll always be a little socially retarded). So there was a bit of snarkiness, but as soon as everyone was pulled back out of touching distance it stopped again. They're not quite friends yet but they're all willing to be; it just needs a bit more time and care.
Brown Bully With Balls, on the other hand, will always be Spike's mortal enemy. He happened to be just inside his own front door as we were going out tonight and there was much foul language and scrabbling from both parties. Ah, well. Can't win 'em all.
On another note, yay for Internet ego boosts and the approaching weekend! Much, much happier.

Glad your boys are making friends with 'downstairs dog', what breed is he?

New Dog is a collie mix - apparently collie, cocker spaniel and possibly corgi. He's a tad smaller than Spike, stockier and red-brown coloured with pricky ears and a shortish coat. Looks like a miniature Dingo, actually. I keep forgetting to ask what his name is. Going to go downstairs without my dogs and meet him properly after the weekend. He strikes me as a complete poppet.
I always rather like evil eyebrows on a dog...

Spike's best play buddy ever was Jay. Now Spike hates bully breeds and he really hates GSDs, but he loves Jay the Pit/GSD mix like a long-lost brother. Jay lives with a Jack Russell, so he's not fazed by maniac hyper dogs and he is the master of chilled-outness himself. We kinda lost touch when I moved. I ought to go find them...
