Three things have made me cry this morning.

The first: I know (because I've had this conversation with a few of my geekier friends) that I'm not the only one who looks to fandom for parallels to life, love, "real" people and relationships, the universe and everything. I suppose it's reassuring to know it's not a form of mental illness - or at least that it's not a brand new one. Watching the last season of Babylon 5 the week before the anniversary of John's death brought a parallel to mind that I'd never thought of before, and also brings Neal's Marcus quote to mind:
"Wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair? And all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them. So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe."
(Edited to add: Don't mistake that for me whining about the things that have happened to me. What you're seeing is my profound, eternal gratitude that I haven't had the fortune I deserve.)

The second: Mitch Benn's tribute to John Peel. Because I was another one who stayed up late recording new songs off the radio, and a good half of the music that keeps me going was music I'd have never heard if not for Peel.

The third: The realisation that I only get like this when I'm pre-menstrual, and will therefore probably be bleeding all weekend instead of getting shagged half to death at the naked sauna. Even my own reproductive system is against me.

Damn repro systems :(
Laura had hers last night on her birthday so I couldn't give her one of the presents I wanted to give LOL

it sucks.

i haven't given up hope. I'm not bleeding yet and sometimes the premenstrual idiocy starts happening a week or more before the bleeding. But it doesn't bode well.

Depends who you're with. I wouldn't let it stop me with someone I knew reasonably well, but naked sauna action is a. in public (sort of) and b. involves random strangers, so I kind of want to not be bleeding.

Also, it tends to make me nauseous, grouchy and Not In The Mood.

Ah. All reasonable points. Although I tend to be grouchy and feel like I deserve it at that point. ;)

Hang in there Liz. I'm sure you'll make up for it once you're through this next cycle.

maybe. I'd like to think so. There's a few reasons why it might be tricky.

I totally get your reproductive organs being against you. LOL

That's why I make mine pay by only allowing them to bleed four times a year. LOL I'm going to schedule it for this coming weekend since I have nowhere to go and nothing to do, other than seeing the parental units.

Yeah - I used to do that when I was on the Pill, but I'm a lard-arsed chainsmoker with a family tendency to strokes, so I stopped doing hormonal birth control in my early 30s. It comes when it comes - although the Mirena does make it a lot lighter.

From: [identity profile] randomyst.livejournal.com

I don't know what Mirena is ... In other words, it's not hormonal birthcontrol? Is it IUDish?

And yeah, I stopped smoking because of the hormone-induced stroke percentages. With my PCOD, I'll always be lardy-arsey. ;-)

It's the new style of IUD that's impregnated with a very low dose of hormones - it's much safer than the pill because the hormones are delivered right to where they need to be working and aren't sloshing round the entire bloodstream. It's got a failure rate comparable to a tubal ligation and has the effect of reducing and sometimes stopping periods as well - mine didn't stop but it made them a great deal lighter, which rocks. I love it.

[[[sympathetic hugs]]]

Keep the music playing, then he really isn't gone. And pet your puppies, that helps.

I'm taking a three-month-cycle pill these days and am positively gleeful about it. However, strenuous sex is what I call "my patented cramp cure" and so far my men friends have gone along with the gag, particularly with slippery fun in the shower afterwards.

I find a gentle orgasm without moving too much sorts cramps out beautifully, but the innards are a bit too tender for penetrative pounding.

also, bleeding on someone you know in your own bed is one thing, quite another with multiple sweaty strangers in a sauna.

but I've not started bleeding yet, so there's hope!

yeah - I have a bunch of Peel Sessions from bands I love on the hard drive. Yay internet!

Ya know what's strange? I haven't thought of this quote for quite some time ... yet ... I've been living by it more and more.

Damn ... I love life.

Hope you have a long pre-menstrual and only start bleeding after that final "Ohhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!"

;)

So do I love life - every breath of it. Perhaps even more than I did once, because I have a duty to love and live for two now.

Have I told you lately how pleased and happy I am that things are going well for you, by the way?

*big big huggles*

I know I look to fandom for guidance too (and IMO, some world leaders could do worse than check out B5 and DS9 for diplomacy advice!) ... that Marcus quote is genius.

*joins in also with hatred of PMT* =(

My only trouble with excellent B5 quotes is that there are so damn many! I have trouble remembering them.

sappy icon love!

p.s. Naamah cat just took a header into the dogs' water bowl and is soaked from head to foot. And she doesn't care. She's tearing round the room like a squirrel on speed leaving wet pawprints on everything.
